I guess we need the $USD to drop a lot more. Not to worry. It's
on its way down.

Couple of things.

One, I think WiMax will resolve the phone lines in underdeveloped countries AND in the US by circumventing the entrenched RBOS.

Two, Has anyone thought through the economics of shipping OLD used CPUs to these ofshore guys. Is it too expensive? The old stuff that we discard will still work as internet terminals. Is that the market??? IRDK.

YB - Re your: "In fact, I think that's a totally stupid idea....... So they think 100% of the second half of the world will rush to Internet, even if they have $50 monthly income......"

I don't think Ruiz was talking about the "second half of the world". He was talking about the first half of the world.

Only some (~40%?) of that first half have Internet access, and EMMA is supposed to help get that up to 100% of that first half. I.e., get (from 20%) to 50% of the total world population to have Internet access by 2015.

I don't think that goal is stupid at all.

yb - There's still 10 years for the infrastructure to expand, and for the system to be made more inexpensively. As long as they don't do it for a loss, it's not likely to hurt AMD, and may well bring a lot of folks into the digital age who wouldn't have otherwise; and of those, some will certainly become more substantial AMD customers. Expanding the potential market can be a wise strategic move. It remains to be seen if it's executed effectively.
