As demonstrated at the Houston mixer recently, the Exodetect software follows intellectual property from its source (the Exobox client) indicating how it left (email or hacker etc.), to wherever it ends up. This is intended to empower the owner of the information to prosecute if they choose to handle it that way. It looked good to me and to the IT professional I was there with. I was invested before the mixer, and my friend the IT guy invested after. I have to believe that the products released so far will support ongoing efforts, if the sales staff is competent. GO EXBX!

Most pirated software, music & movies are distributed via P2P (Peer-to-Peer) Networks, such as BitTorrent, Utorrent, Ares, LimeWire, BearShare, etc. The old method (still active) is distributed via IRC (Internet Relay Chat). FYI.. government agencies are off-limits from IRC, as Bill Clinton signed a Bill passed in 1993.

It was mentioned by someone here, that someone talked to Ted Ernest directly at the previous mixer (June 30 Mixer) that Ted said they were developing a similiar product that is based on their Data Leak Detection Software that is specifically aimed at the P2P Networks. This was not announced by the company, but someone here credible specifically stated his/her conversation regarding this matter. If this is the case, which I think it is very possible, companies such as Microsoft, Sony, DreamWorks, etc. would be customers of such products in pursuing thieves in distribution of intellectual property.

If ExoDetect can find data leaks on web-blogs, including IP Address, date/time, etc. of the person who posted it, they will be able to find the author who is distributing files on the P2P networks. If you ever used BitTorrent or uTorrent, you will know that Exobox's technology makes it very possible for their bots to track. =)
