It really depends on what you are doing, and you should look at it in a dynamic way. You can expect Intel to optimize their compilers for larger caches, so expect improvements over time for larger cache CPUs. As well you can expect future apps (or versions of apps) making use of larger caches over time. Ideally, this would be the next version of Windows or an SP for it.

In a broader view, being aware that you cant keep your replacement cycle alive by means of clockspeed-illusion (aka megahertz-myth), you now use the ecosystem to make looking obsolete what you put your customers down the throat three of four years ago, attributing progress to your new (large cache) CPUs by means of using common misperception again that CPU is determining your PC's performance.
