Subsea means "beneath the surface of the sea". That's why they are called subsea production platforms, subsea piplines, etc.

If they drilled 11,000' subsea that is universally accepted as a measure from the rotary table onboard. All reported depth figures are referenced from the rotary table. I thought this was settled weeks ago!
