Is Ailes About to Turn the Fox Business Network Around?

First, Don Imus, second, Jon Stossel, next... Lou Dobbs? Is Roger Ailes about to turn around the fortunes of the Fox Business Network? Prior to the arrival of the Imus juggernaut, the 'not-publicly-available' viewing figures over at Fox Business didn't make for happy viewing. Executives at News Corp must have been thinking about whether they had backed the wrong horse in mounting a challenge to CNBC. With availability in around 40 million homes, but averaging a daily audience of just 21,000, the chances of the network hitting its break-even target in 2010 was looking bleak. I certainly wouldn't have wanted to be in the room when the generals read the revenue sheet.

Well, its amazing what difference a couple of months make at a cable news network isn't it. Roger Ailes has clearly been going after big hitters in what is viewed as an attempt to turn around the fortunes of the lacklustre channel. He could probably hear the chuckles of the CNBC executives in the bars of Manhattan celebrating the crushing of yet another business network. With the exception of Bloomberg Television, CNBC's form seems to be, beat them or buy them. Only a month or two ago, Fox Business Network looked all but beaten.

Along comes a veteran radio host, controversial, but a guaranteed ratings winner. The media writers had a field day, so did I infact. The headlines all read, Fox Business Network has thrown in the towel, no more business news at breakfast time, 'the' primetime of business news reporting. Everyone didn't expect what happened when Don Imus hit the airwaves on the Fox Business Network though. According to leaked figures, Fox Business Network beat CNBC in the same time slot on Imus' first outing. Those figures also seem to be holding up well. The problem for FBN, is retaining the viewers from Imus throughout the rest of the day.

Cue another high profile addition to the Fox Business line-up. Jon Stossel of ABC's 20/20 fame. Surely he's going to be a ratings winner and bring in more viewers from the wilderness? That's still a maybe, but what would be a dramatic steal, and could possibly re-ignite the FBN Versus CNBC war once again, would be Lou Dobbs. Ailes had dinner with Dobbs, and Dobbs is having a tough time at CNN at the moment, and could be looking for a way out. He's also a veteran business journalist and presenter, with decades of experience in the field. He also has a loyal following. I'd fully expect that those viewers that he lost when his Moneyline programme disappeared down the ether, would come back to him if he was fronting another business show.

Roger Ailes appears to be building a ratings winning team, which will challenge CNBC's dominance in real terms. A battle between FBN and CNBC for viewers, only adds to the business sector excitement that the Bloomberg and Wall Street Journal/Dow Jones battle is already providing.

It is still a big if mind.

GM LH and KS and ALL. It has been a long absence. SO much to attend to in my neck of the woods. Still a rough couple weeks, then I can share more..
anyways.. I am in agreement with LH on the National Guard and others deployed around our Great Country. I beleive this is a Real Truth, not even a possibility and Find myself in a depressed economy and state where they would hit one of the first areas.. and have been. Economy is partly result of the system of control of course. MAny are armed and yet many are way too optimisitic. It is not really possible to explain this Idea to them.
