That is not Kaplan's argument. He argues that speculators (large and small) are heavily long gold futures - to the extent similar to the previous peak. Commercials are heavily short. Historically, speculators are wrong.

Concerning keeping a core holding - totally agree with you. However, for those who are 100% long gold miners, IMO this may be a good time to sell a little bit. Previous correction was tough - many juniors went down more than 50%.
