Interesting article.

As to China's timeframe for a free-floating currency, some speculate this won't take meaningful shape until the 2008 Olympics. China has also stated they need more time to "fix" their banking and government-run businesses sector.

Another interesting point, on a macro level, is the fact that energy costs in dollar terms are specifically hurting the US as well as those economies based on (or pegged to) the dollar. (i.e China for one)

Not surprisingly, those economies whose currencies have appreciated against the eroding dollar, have not suffered as much (and some, very little) from the high cost of "dollar-based" energy.
