You will end up with $512000 if you take $500 and play 10 doubles consecutively, but if you take $500 and play a 10 bagger you will get 1000% or $5000 profit, for a total of $5500. Your method is exponential, and you can't exponentialize without multiple stocks, or at least multiple investments over time in one stock.
