not really, most "penny stocks" are OB and PK stocks (for US markets).....the few pinks that aren't penny stocks are ADRs, such as Nestle and Nintendo.....although many institutions may not buy stocks under $5, I don't think, for example C (#1 NYSE volume on many days) is a "penny stock" on days it is under $5, and suddenly isn't a penny stock when it trades over $5.....I also assume institutions are trading C when volume is over 1B shares, despite PPS below $5....
PS: will SPNG suddenly no longer be a penny stock once it reverse splits 1 for 100, bringing PPS over $5???? (assuming current PPS stays over .05).......
