From media release dated 5 March 2009 by David Llewellyn MP, Minister for Energy and Resources:

"GSLM's special exploration licence was granted in 1999, renewed for a further five years in 2004 and cannot be extended beyond 30 September 2009," Mr Llewellyn said.

"If the special exploration licence expires, any applicant could apply for an exploration licence for petroleum products and any such applications would be treated as new and subject to the normal approval and appeal processes," Mr Llewellyn said.
