dude patents are not always needed for a success of a tech comapny ..there is something called first mover advantage...as the saying goes a patent is worth it only if you can defend it ..... startups rarely have the money to do so .....barries to entry (of which 1st mover advantage is and founders connections and background are why VCs invest)
