i'll defer to those on this board that know more than me. if you look at my track record i am a professional at losing money :) not making it. i would ask Chartinator or kgoodrich.

My 2cents...If you have only $500 to start, pick a good stock called by one of the professors(no pinks or otcbb) and go all in...Keep in mind there are never any guaruntees, but the stocks called here meet the boards criteria...it is very hard to make you commission back if you try to spread too thin...Once you have grown your account some, then deversify...Aggie..

I find turning 500 into a thousand is MUCH easier than doubling a large number.
Several reasons behind that of course......

GTM,

Just this week, we did the same thing..set up an account with my son - starting with $500 he earned from mowing lawns this summer.

It will be a little slow at first, because I want him to be involved in the buying decision and he is in school most of the day..but we are looking for 1 or 2 stocks from Chart that fits our budget. Maybe something in the .20 to $2 range ....

YMI is one we are talking about, LTS, RNN, those are the 3 that I have shared with him. Later today or tomorrow - he gets to place his first trade. If one of these move before we act....so be it. The goal for me is to teach him - that YOU MUST save/invest and patience will win over time.

Best wishes with your goals!
