Now that I've got the hang of it, I find it works quite well, as long as the containers are big enough. I thought at first that growing large tomatoes wouldn't be a success, but this year it has been. I don't think my Cherokees and Raharts are as big as they'd have been if I'd grown 'em in the ground, but then I'm sure the weather was also a factor. They've produced pretty well.

In a year like this one, containers are good because they offer decent drainage. Of course, in a really hot and dry summer, you have to water them a lot.
