of course "if" the pollution can be remediated, then it might serve other purposes, but that's a very big and expensive "if" for a company to invest funding. Nobody was interested during the booming economy and easy credit years. Chances are even slimmer now during recession and tight credit.

"If" my house were 3 times larger and located on the waterfront it would be worth much more. But it's not.

But hey, you got a buyer? I'm sure Laidlaw will entertain offers. Bidding starts at $100M.

If the land could have an alternative use why wasn't anyone interested in it when the mill was going to close? Surely the mill closing was announced before the mill actually closed their door. Why all the fuss now? The only reason I can see is that some people stand to make money on Laidlaw NOT developing the site.

Sort of like .. Well, we didn't want it at the time but we don't want you to have it!!
