I think he simply misread the article. He thought they are only drilling 5,000 feet below the seabed, when they will actually be drilling 11,600 feet below the seabed.

Try-

BS Geology UND(Class of '60) (That's not North Dakota)
MS Geology Nebraska at Lincoln
30-odd years in the oil patch (XOM, MRO) As geologist/manager for both exploration and production.

What I am saying is that, if the PR is correct and they are only drilling 10,000 or so feet below sealevel ( that's 5000+ feet below the mudline) they may miss horizons that occur below closure on this particular fairly small (in area) structure.

Recall postings way back when concerning a stratigraphic trap that someone recalled had been designated as "Hercules" that was probably fault controlled and beneath these structures.

Also remember convesations concerning Ghawar-sized trap and the fact that there are seeps all the way to landfall on the islands Those COULD connect all of these reservoirs into one system (not one reservoir, but one pressure system).

Conjecture? yep, but looking at the JDZ as a whole, it APPEARS that it was set up to cover what someone who has seen all of the seismic considers to be a deeper,if leaky, fault- bounded trap. Why proove up a bunch of small, discrete structures when there might be a ginormous system connecting them all.

I appreciate your skepticism and apologize for the delay in replying to your post, but I believe that I was watching the Astros finally win a game when you posted.

Cheers,
Larry
