I see many times where not one but where an entire database of URLs will be setup to provide value-added information and all of these will come from various entities scanning the same barcode and possibly using the same mobile phone to do the scanning. I even see the mobile phones being used to conduct a checkout at a point of sale. Each one of these scans will be handled differently.

A barcode is owned by a manufacturer. PopTech's company is providing a "value-added" service to existing barcodes.

By clicking on this "value-added" service how will the click/scan be handled?

Many questions will have to be answered by the server handling the inquiry. Each one will have to provide an index/pointer/URL that will provide an answer back to the user making the inquiry.

I submit that each type of inquiry will be handled in a different way. Is the click from a register? Is it from a way point?

While it is on shelf prior to purchase, is the scan coming from a mobile phone and is that user registered as a company representative doing an inventory or spot check looking for potential products not meeting temperature specifications?

Now imagine that right next to this person is another user? This one is a consumer. Thus he/she is not registered and thus the inquiry would be assumed to be a consumer? This scan/click would be handled differently?

The other factor is that the product has been purchased and sits in a refrigerator for 2 months. The same consumer from above decides to check whether it is safe to use. The consumer does a scan of the product. This time the barcode provides a valued piece of information that gives the date of packaging, shipment and possibly date of sale among other things. Since it is so far after the packaging date, the resolution of this scan would be to a site telling the user that the product is unsafe to consume or provides instructions on preparations on how to properly handle it so it may be consumed.

srowen, thanks for addressing my question.

Between this reply of yours and a previous one ...

... it would appear the two examples given in response to my original question do not actually utilize claims in the 048 patent.

Can anyone give any other potential examples, from the hundreds of PRs about other companies put on this board, of campaigns/systems utilizing 048 claims and thus infringing on NEOM's IP?
