LOL your post is good, however the reason for the packaging of 3+ sponges is the same as going to a wharehouse club or Wlmart for that instance and buying a two pack of PAM or a package of 6 tubes of toothpaste, I have done both, and have bought the three pack of car-sponges also... thats the way a lot of americans shop these days.... "supersize" box of potato chips, a 5lb jar of peanut butter....
