#59882 RE: BigB #59881

BigB – good one.

Reminds me of the last Hitchhiker’s Guide to Galaxy book with the auto-calibrating guide. Part of which went something like this:

In a very high pitched voice the book said can you hear me – to which she replied yes.

In a medium pitched voice the book said can you hear me – to which she replied yes.

In a low pitched voice the book said can you hear me – to which she replied yes.

Then after a brief pause the book said – obviously not.

So maybe you’re right – they’re communicating in frequencies we just can’t hear. In any event it has been way too quiet for way too long.

(The other good reply from the guide calibration routine was “So you think time goes that way.”)

Back to delivery - I still like the image of lipid encapsulation – basically tricking the cells into thinking the plasmids are snack food. Electro-poration seems a bit cruel – and has some potentially nasty side-effects – too much juice and the cell contents start leaking out – instead of the good stuff going in. The nano-particle guns are effective for topical applications – but also a bit harsh. This ultrasound method seems more like a spa treatment – but in the end it’ll be whatever works to get the right amount of genetic material into the right cells at the right time. And the winner of the best delivery system stands to make a healthy profit as well - so maybe worth following these developments.
