The same can be applied to modern liberalism. How else do you explain modern liberal states where the government allocates more and more of the societal wealth into its own pocket all in the name of wealth redistribution? All men are selfish. Anyone who tells you otherwise just want you to part with your hard earned money to satisfy his own selfish desires, all in the name of some "superior moral justification" called "common good."
