We'll see how long it takes for a single solitary deepwater gas only project to be developed offshore Nigeria when there are trillions of cubic feet being flared closer to shore. The Chinese are smart enough businessmen to pursue the least expensive sources of gas before they go after the most expensive sources of gas. China has an awfully lot of unexplored acreage onshore in their own country. If they don't have shale formations similar to those found in many places in the US, I'd be shocked. Watch for the Chinese to learn the horizontal drilling methods now being used in the US shale formations to exploit their own, domestic sources of natural gas.
