As far as IRA accounts and how to accomplish what you wish, contact your broker and ask. Even discount brokerage firms have IRA accounts and will be happy to answer your questions (if they don't fire them and find a new broker). However, to be fair, on non-pressing items, I usually send an e-mail with the questions and allow them answer at their convience after normal trding hours.
