CombJelly, on quad core
You mention future quad core AMD64 chips. I think this is something that is not a given at all for AMD. Dual core can be sold as a client solution, but I really don't expect quad core to be accepted that way -- a faster dual core will trump it in the client end. So if AMD were to build a quad core chip, that would be aimed at the server/workstation market only. I don't think they have enough design resources/market share to do that economically. In fact, if Intel has an opening to recapture server marketshare, quad core may be the contender, although the price might pose a problem. It's a battle area on which AMD may not be able to contend.
