#64122 RE: ieddyi #64116

Putin said it well yesterday when he said that the rise of terrorism in the west was a result of US policies in the mid east. Patrick Buchanan also said the same thing yesterday on Meet the Press. Putin also said that the US government bureaucracy has been detrimental to the fight against terrorism because of its residual "cold war" attitudes.

Even Bin Laden stated that American policies and actions were the justification for his fatwah against american.

Bush is intentionally (if he is aware at all of what he is saying) misrepresenting the causes of this Islamic terrorism when he says they hate American, they hate liberty, etc.

It is hard to tell if Bush knows what he is saying since he is almost always scripted.

The US mideastern policy has been lacking in an understanding of the social dynamics of the region. The US has allowed the Sharon government to ineffect make US foriegn policy.

Israel is not of strategic importance to the US.
We should not allow them to make our foriegn policy.
Sharon's aggressive policies precipitated the rash of suicide bombings in Israel and set the tone for things to come like 911.

Instead of demonizing these mid-eastern people we need to construct a rational foriegn policy that recognizing them as human being (not haters of america) and helps them overcome their regional problems. We are all the same species and all descended from the "Bushmen" of Africa so lets recognize our origins.

There is a group in Washington typified by Gnewt Gingrich which believes that Iraq had to be taken over to prevent the oil money financing the terrorist. He said this on TV during the Meet the Press yesterday. People like Gnewt always reach for simple solutions to complex problems. His solution invade Iraq and get control of the oil revenues. This is the type of thinking that will be used to justify an invasion of Iran.
The US and Britain have sought to control the oil situation since the 60's. They got the first democratic leader of Iran Mosadegh deposed and replaced by the Shah in the late 60's. Apparently, creating democracies in the mid east is not as high a priority as controlling the oildl industry in that area.

Welcome to the geopolitics of "Dune". Gee , we even have the equivalent of that fat red headed lord who likes to torture people.
