Mike, I understand your point perfectly. I was just addressing the carps of those who say Thank God, Gore wasn't in charge on 9/11. Because if we're going to talk "real world," then no one knows what Gore would have done in response on 9/11 or where we would be now because he wasn't. It's all imaginary supposition. But I can't imagine that Gore wouldn't have gone after Bin Laden and Afghanistan.

I was simply pointing out that there were other potential "real worlds" for the Republicans, too, but Powell declined to run, and McCain was maliciously smeared (if you have better words to describe what happened, I'm all ears) by the Bush campaign.

If you're all for Bush's eagle eyes and mongoose attitude, then I would simply ask you: when is he going to turn those marvelous qualities to the economy? You'd think, in four years, that he would have been able to veto at least one spending bill brought up by a Republican-controlled Congress. But you'd be wrong. He and Congress are spending like drunken sailors, with no eventual end in sight.

That's what I meant by self-respecting Republicans. Where are the fiscal conservatives in that party? When are they going to stand up and say, we can't keep growing deficits like there is no tomorrow?

Your post didn't address/answer that question, so I'm going to nominate you Chief Honcho in Charge of the George Bush Monumental Deficit Reduction Program.

I mean, there is a plan, isn't there?
