IMHO I don't think the his birthday was a excuse more of a qualifier statement to show proof of contact. I Also have called the auditor and Im inclined to believe her version, when pressed on the issue of starting date of audit. I took from the conversation that it was more like the company used the engagement time as the start time but not actual hire time. what I took from conversation is it really wasn't Paul but a 3rd party vendor that is slow in getting the info needed to complete audit. and But i get the impression that the companies hasn't got ugly about it or pushed issue to boil point yet. If i had to take a guess IMHO it is a vendor who Feels they got the shaft somehow and are not really willing or in a rush to help the new company out.
either way I feel the company has option to speed up the process and they just don't feel the need to or want too
