"Q: should I upgrade to SP2 on my A64?"

Do you use wireless? Does it drop on you? SP2 does solve the problem with the WirelessZeroConfig.

Q:< should I upgrade to SP2 on my A64?

My computer is running fine. I have a lot of programs installed on it that I'd rather not have to reinstall. This is one of the emachines A64 laptops.

I'm really not that interested in having to redo my machine if SP2 would mess it up, but if I know it will be safe, I'd prefer to upgrade. Last I saw, it was hit or miss in terms of A64 machines having problems with SP2.

Would anyone be willing to summarize the current conventional wisdom on this issue?

Thanks!>

I downloaded sp2 and have had no problems with my A64-3400. I fly online with Flight Sim it asked if I wanted to unblock access for that purpose. It closes the door so to speak, after the fact. My machine is a desktop, does that make a difference, perhaps?
I have a fairly fast DSL connection and was able to DLoad it in a reasonable amount of time, 00:23 from start to installed. I'm told the other piecmeal method sometims doesn't work too well, dont know from experiance.
This is probably all for naught, when Win XP-64 beta latest build arrives in a few days I will redo this machine. I'm told it has sp2 within.

Jules

neye_eve, SP2 on A64, most everything seems to work fine. There have been a few driver issues with the NX bit (apparently there are a couple of products which try to execute code pushed to the stack...). If you run into the problem then you can always turn off the NX protection, and it will be just like not upgrading! :)

Seriously, do a complete backup first. If things really screw up then the recovery methodology would be to reformat, reinstall and restore. (From what we've been seeing so far this is a matter of prudence, I don't know of any cases where someone actually had to do this.)
