Got it

First paragraph of the study shows the following:

Background and Introduction:
This report documents enhanced performance and energy savings resulting from the installation of self-dimming lighting ballasts in test areas at Terminal B of the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). The installations resulted in cumulative savings ranging from 33 to 37 percent when compared to standard T12 Mag-ballast and from 14 to 20 percent compared to standard T8 Electronic ballast systems. These savings are the average percent reduction measured across each manufacturers test area and over the test period.

These figures were the bench test figures used to justify the test being done at the DFW Terminal B. I note that, in the test project, the entire lighting electrical system was rewired to maximize the results. I guess that would be fair for a demonstration test by a university. But I would have a hard time selling that to my boss.

Actual real life test results in the terminal were a 6% reduction in power requirements over the control units.

At the industrial rate for electricity paid by DFW, that 6% reduction wouldn't set any purchasing agent's hair on fire. Especially considering the increased cost of the ballast and the installation cost for the retrofit.

But then Green is a good thing if you can afford it and Axis pays the cost of the retrofit.
