Marketing Gimmick!

Article from earlier in the year pushes the NeoReader app.
http://www.bbgeeks.com/blackberry-applications/reading-barcodes-on-your-blackberry-881822/

Your Blackberry 8900 has a 3.2 MP camera...that's probably why you aren't having much issues taking barcode pics. 3G has 2 MP so I complain at times if the image was too small or not clear. Autofocus and Macro capabilities for the new 3Gs will make it much better to take more detailed pics for NeoReader or other barcode readers to read.

I'm sure down the road every smartphone camera will be getting better and better...soon enough these cameras will have optical zoom to enhance farther images. Just like your personal home digital camera...takes time to advance. You can't just jump into a Ferrari from a Focus. You have to step into a Cadillac, then Corvette, then sell GM stocks to buy GMGMQ, then sell GMGMQ after a couple weeks, then buy a Mercedes SL55 AMG, and then finally a Ferrari F450...after that you'll get to a Porsche Carrera GT.

WOW, gotta stop dreaming...my dreams always involve NEOM blowing UP...finally... =P

BRING IT!

Apple is "not getting in on this" as far as we know. Barcode readers are just a few of the thousands of apps they offer.

NeoReader requires a medium resolution camera of at least 2 MP+, and internet connection and a browser.

NeoReader works on Windows Mobile, iPhone, Java, Symbian, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile.

Any phone meeting those requirements is good to go - a lot of phones.
