I had thought of using their endangered species status at one time to prevent a zoning change in my neighbourhood. Would I have lied to prevent a landowner from building apartments next door to me? I think so. Fortunately the zoning request was denied so I was never put to the test.

Actually, there is a possibility horny toads live on the property, IMO. Who knows...perhaps Blue Balls could even be there! LOL
