Rossi, Have you read the written statement from the hearings? I have not completed my DD, however, I have came across ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that seems to indicate that the govt. has banned mining in the region, and in fact, it appears to me that they are crawling over one another to potray the reality that they are only requiring additional information. It appears so far to me that approval will be forthcoming when MNG gets its EIS requirements in order. It appears the main risk may be that jumping through all the hoops has the potential to make the Project economically infeasible, to that I will pass to much greater qualified than I.. The Jericho diamond project was just approved in Feb. 2004 by the Nirb, 240 km sw of the project and there are other gold projects in the same region. Your last statement rings a bell of someone who may wish to drive down the price so you may buy on the cheap.Read the hearing statement before you expound anymore of this nonsense,JMHO.

*** Gold related post (MNG) ***

Hi Rossi, I just read the 92 page NIRB final hearing report for The Doris North Gold Mine Project and I sure get a completely different take than that the one from the Yahoo poster.

Not to diffuse the issue, but I wonder if he is short> <vvbg>

Miramar has not had anything 'stopped' or 'cancelled'..... period.
The Nunavut Impact Review Board, almost apologetically, imo, needs more info on some matters, possible alternative plans to others, and I have found no instance where do they utter a menacing word or give me the feeling that the many thousands of shares I bot today for my accounts were an act of folly.

Because of my religiously held long term views on gold, I'm prolly less sensitive than most to short term price fluctuations, but considering the almost 40% haircut Miramar has/is going through in recent days, common sense would dictate that further risks should be minimal.

Here's the official report choad mentioned. Check it out. Your comments as well as others are very welcome.

IMO the NIRB report is a nightmare for MNG. the NIRB found
that MNG's "deficiencies are so overwhelmingly significant"
it could not even conduct an assessment. The board noted
that MNG's use of a 2 year mine life for its submission
"distorted the overall picture" by favoring immediate economic
benefits over the much longer term costs to wildlife and the environment. you know you are in trouble when among other things you must consider "caribou friendly roads" and the
"spiritual relationship with the land" enjoyed by the natives.
MNG must tackle 5 significant areas: wildlife, tail lake/water,
tail lake alternatives, jetty design and socio-economic impact.
the NIRB noted it will take "months" alone just to study the wildlife mitigation & monitoring and mentioned December.
even if MNG can obtain a project certificate, that is just the first step. the matter is then divided up for component review by various other regulatory agencies. some of the references infer MNG may need the input/vote of individual local wildlife.:) it should tell you something when the first and most important thing in the report is a picture of the board.
