I think they see it will it get taken out it depends on market condition...remember they get the order book...when you send the order to your borker they send it to a market maker...

I have seen a stock go from 20 to 18 in matter of seconds and then go back to 20 in the beginning of the day so it would seem to me that people put stop losses a day before...
