They don't really need to sit and watch the boards here, now days there's electronic discovery which can cover all backup tapes, all hard drives, and all communications. Normally, they will have a third party do it so that it is all indexed and searchable in a nice neat database.
Judging from the charges listed in the DOJ's indictment, it's pretty obvious that the FBI has been investigating this operation for a while. Chances are really good that theyve only rolled on the primaries so far and that that there are some others around here who might be sweating a little.
