#42298 RE: Tiger64 #42294

Tiger, what do I think? I think that AMD wants to get 65nm up and running as fast as they realistically can. Doing anything else with Fab 36 will delay it. The same engineers and technicians who are now focussed on 65nm would have to be 'borrowed' to get up the tactical 90nm lines in fab 36.

I suspect that fab 36 will be partially utilized through 2006, ramping at a predetermined rate to get things tuned. Fab 30 will still be the main workhorse into 2007. bobs10 asked about this - how do you double output and have a place to sell it? I don't think that will be a worry, fab 36 won't come up to full utilization all that quickly!

I know that several posters here are feeling anxious - AMD has clear product superiority in most areas, and competitive offerings in all areas. This would seem to be the time to ramp insanely and make the big move against Intel.

If only it were that simple.

However, with fab 30 fully converted to 90nm and fab 36 used for introducing new product and process then we will see fab 30 at 100% utilization for the first time ever. That may very well be enough to supply 25-30% of the market.

It would make me happy! :)
