#42254 RE: Tenchu #42204

And 64-bit isn't even relevant right now in desktops, much less laptops. The early adopters might be gamers, but they're still running mostly desktops, except for the few that got their 10 lb. "game on the go" laptops. Let's wait for the "wave of 64-bit" to hit desktops and workstations first before even expecting a trickle for laptops.

HP seems to be doing a brisk business in the r3000z. I have one,
my manager has one, several folks here have one and they are
on shopping lists of those that are techincally inclined. They
make good sense as an excellent desktop replacement, also good
for those that need to do a little travelling. They only weigh
a little over 7 pounds which seems pretty light to me. BTW,
sometimes I bring in two laptops when I want to watch the
market a little more closely. My current bag weighs about 18
pounds with all of my other stuff and a second laptop bag is
usually about 11 pounds.

I don't consider myself a gamer but I do compile 80 million
lines of code on many days and the A64 is ideal for development.

The 10 pound models tend to be Pentium 4 models. Dell and HP
both sell these models. The Athlon 64 notebooks that I've
seen are around 7+ pounds.

Personally I don't see a reason to wait. You get better
performance running your 32-bit applications on Windows 64
which happens to be free right now. You get your NX protection
and you can start developing or porting current 64-bit
applications. But even if you don't, you get a nice boost
just running Windows-64. I think that even the driver
situation is getting better. Not really an issue with me
given the components that HP put into this laptop though.

BTW, does anyone out there actually have a Dothan notebook?
It's been out for a while but I still don't know anyone that's
gone out and bought one.
