The PRs were filed in Canada though for a deal with a non-US entity. There could be a problem if their had been a US acquirer or if the PRs were filed in the US, but they were just picked up by US press outlets.

When Australia post their currency, it states A$ or AUD.
Australia it is almost always abbreviated with the dollar sign ($); A$ or AU$ are often used informally to distinguish it from other dollar-denominated currencies.

Usually you see the Canadian $ as CAD. The Canadian dollar (sign: $; code: CAD) is normally abbreviated with the dollar sign $, or C$ to distinguish it from other dollar-denominated currencies.

With multiple markets involved, one would think that they would distinguish this on the share tender form.
