But by your speculation and reasoning, any increase in A/S is not likewise increasing the O/S, so there is no more shares the shorts can sell...because you don't believe the company is selling more in the first place.

I'm long 1.4 mil, but we all got hosed big time today by SM. For whatever reason, sm wants the shareprice to remain low. He could've at least let this rally play out before raising the A/S a measley 200 million shares. What a coincidence to raise this measley amount in the middle of the strongest rally with huge volume. Before this little stunt, I was holding, accmulating, and not trading. Now I'm going to trade some and see what happens. This little stunt is killing investor confidence. If you're going to do this, sm needs to inform investors of the reason behind it. Otherwise, what are reasonable people going to think??
