#41790 RE: upc #41786

upc, Re: A Prescott system AT IDLE uses nearly as much power as an A64 system at MAX LOAD.

Sounds intimidating when you use ALL CAPS, doesn't it? Why not put it into quantitative terms?

If a given Prescott in a given test dissipates 60% more power than an Athlon 64 system, how much does that cost the end user? How often do end users run active tests such as these, and how applicable is this to every day operation? Most CPUs these days come with some kind of DBS capability (Cool 'n Quiet, for example) that puts the chip into idle with pretty small latencies, so that even high load applications can enter this state periodically. I'm guessing that Prescott in this test did not have any power management features enabled. Was it an early stepping, or one that was improperly configured?

Looks like you should probably research this a bit more, but I'm guessing the temptation to take the numbers out of context is far to great for you to resist.
