HP sold the Itanium systems to the Weather Channel -- not Intel. So explain how you think that "Intel marketing" was involved.
The plain fact is that the Weather Channel had hands on experience with the Opteron and when it additional needs it had chose IPF systems from HP. This speaks louudly of what the the Weather Channel thinks about Opteron stuff.
Scoreboard: Intel won this deal. It was a high profile account for AMD. Months after the AMD press release Weather channel was already commenting that they would strongly look at Nocona. The question is this: why didn't AMD just give it away? They have done this often in other deals...Red storm comes to mind:) lenova sempron deal:)
The truth is that Intel DIDN'T give it away. Weather channel WANTED the product and paid for it...and HP sold it gladly.
