Free music without the fear of a lawsuit - if only Napster had known.
Qtrax, based in midtown, is a new, ad-supported free music service that allows registered users to download unlimited songs from record labels such as Universal, Sony and EMI.
It's a tough business: Two ad-supported music sites closed in the past two years. New York's Spiral Frog shut due to financial trouble in 2007. And after being bought by Total Music, the Ruckus Network went dark earlier this year.
