Chipguy, you are just egging them on for no reason -- especially since you know better. IBM is introducing 8 nocona servers because a large part of the market still only buys Intel. Opteron is not an option to these people. Nocona is replacing 32-bit Xeon, nothing less, nothing more. As AMD says, get 64-bit for free.

As far as this being a stepping stone to IPF, I can't believe you really made that statement. Unless it was a joke, you are saying that by further entrenching x86 and increasing the apps base for 64-bit x86, Intel is following a cunning and devious plan, opaque to most, to cause a mass transition to IPF, circa 20??. I am going with the joke explanation.

I cannot verify it but my gut feeling is that Intel is giving IBM sweetheart deals...right now AMD cannot...it isn't the first time
stuff has been foisted onto the consumer...
