The VA is one of the few organizations this would work for on Government side. Here's why......

The only records that will be in the VA's files will be when someone see's a VA doctor or goes to a Va Hospital. Any records of when a patient see's a doctor or goes to a hospital not run by the VA will not be part of the persons records.

Same concept applies when a persons health insurer or personal doctor keeps someones medical records. Only the records of visits or treatments administered by that health insurer or that doctor would be included.

With the VA most vets who are covered by VA continue to get all their medical care from the VA. My father-in-law was injured in the military over 50 years ago and has gotten all his medical care from the VA since then.

It's finding a way to collect and store all of one persons medical records into one complete electronic file that is so challenging. When someone changes jobs and switches health care insurer or moves and switches doctors that the challenge intensifies.

That's why the one solution to this is for people to keep and maintain a complete personal health record that has all their medical info included from every doctor and hospital they received treatment from over their lifetime. This is where FVRL/MMR fits into the grand scheme of things with the easiest to use and most comprehensive Personal Health Record (PHR) on the market.
