rich sears - In order to clarify a few issues:
1) Laidlaw has a good amount of support at the local level for the Laidlaw-Berlin project, as is evidenced by petition signatures in favour of the project, letters to the editor in favour of the project, a round of applause for the Company in their recent presentation to the council, etc...
2) Laidlaw has additional support at the county level from the Coos County Commissioners...
3) Laidlaw has additional support at the state level including the State Senator who is also a Berlin resident...
4) The Governor clearly supports alternative energy strongly and there is absolutely no public evidence that he opposes the Laidlaw project...
5) I seriously doubt there is any validity or concern that an unnamed "major developer is waiting in the wings for Laidlaw to go away so they can step in and create real opportunity and real jobs on the mill site" as you speculate without any hard evidence to support the claim...
6) To correct your mistaken opinion and misleading comment that "And since Laidlaw does not own the site, I suspect the real property owners have been contacted", I would point out that Laidlaw is a partner in the group of investors who own the property... I seriously doubt Laidlaw as an equity stakeholder would support the sale of the property unless the offer was extremely financially advantageous to Laidlaw and the Company's shareholders...
7) In fact, Laidlaw will be the company creating "real opportunity" and "real jobs" on the mill site, not to mention additionally real tax contributions, real out-of-state business investment, real economic diversification, and a real lessening of the dependence of the local government on financial handouts from Concord which the state government now wants to reduce...
LAIDLAW-BERLIN: GOOD FOR BERLIN, GOOD FOR COOS COUNTY, AND GOOD FOR THE STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE...
Best Regards,
Tom
