{"s" : "has","k" : "c10,l10,p20,t10","o" : "","j" : ""} Brian Goldner, 45, who became president and CEO in May when Alfred J. Verrecchia, 66, stepped down from the post to become chairman, received a base salary of $920,769, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

He received a $2.5 million performance-based bonus and $7,751 million in above-market earnings on deferred compensation.

He also received $332,077 in matching contributions to a retirement account.

The bulk of his award came in the form of stock and option grants, which the company valued at $3.6 million at the time they were granted. The package includes some options with an exercise price of about $27.10 per share. Hasbro stock was trading around $26.50 Monday.

A year ago, when he was chief operating officer, Goldner received compensation valued at $5.2 million.

Meanwhile, Verrecchia, 66, received compensation valued at $8.8 million, down 15 percent from the $10.4 million he earned in 2007, when he served as chief executive the entire year.

The Associated Press calculations of total pay include executives' salary, bonus, incentives, perks, above-market returns on deferred compensation and the estimated value of stock options and awards granted during the year. The calculations don't include changes in the present value of pension benefits, and they sometimes differ from the totals companies list in the summary compensation table of proxy statements filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Last year, toy makers including Hasbro Inc. -- which makes Scrabble and Monopoly games and Playskool toys -- were hurt by the weakest holiday season in years. In 2008, Hasbro's earnings dropped 8 percent to $306.8 million, while annual sales rose nearly 5 percent to $4.02 billion.

However, unlike most companies in 2008, it share price rose 14 percent for the year.
