astonishing that this administration is so blatantly fomenting envy and jealousy

The start of class warfare.

For what it's worth. I agree with you. Contract due diligence begins prior to signing not after.

You think it is moral for the government to seize an employee's legally earned income simply because it exceeds some arbitrary and capricious threshold? I'm curious why that is.

Please don't assume I think this. My point was that this particular letter was duplicitous, claiming he worked for a $1 salary when he was actually working for more than $1M/year, talking about his sense of duty etc. I mostly found it amusing.

I don't think the government should be interfering with AIG's contractual obligations to employees; I do think that those types of contractual obligations reflect a culture at companies like AIG (actually pretty much all companies when it comes to how they implement executive compensation), and I agree with Tec that the sense of entitlement is embarrassing.

I am always astonished at the amount of envy and jealousy that people display.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to be outraged WRT AIG. It's petty to claim it's all about jealousy (though undoubtedly some of it is with some people).

Just so I understand. You think it is moral for the government to seize an employee's legally earned income simply because it exceeds some arbitrary and capricious threshold? I'm curious why that is

Sigh, taxes, give me a break. Move somewhere and don't pay them. You people would be the first to complain when you lose a hubcap because there's a huge pothole that no one can fix because there isn't any money for roads.

What astonishes me and how people can make legitimate a person's horrible greed at the expense of shareholders and the public, and feel entitled to a bonus in a company that helped start a global recession, and it is equally astonishing to me the amount of people that think it's okay because they had a contract, that is pathetic.
