I was starting to think that this is a YAHOO board without as many yahoos as is customary there.

I think that this economic information is somewhat relevant to the point where it might effect the stock valuations of AMD stock and the stock market in general...now if we were talking strictly
politics I would have to agree that it would not be relevant at all...I do not have a problem with the material as long as it can
be at least indirectly related to investing in AMD stock...

upc, if you think investing in AMD should be done without a foundation in the macro economic environment that makes AMD's market then I consider that foolish. I sold most of my AMD (and a lot of other) stock in January because I believed (and posted) that we were ripe for a bear market. It's the lower tide thing, you know.

I am revisiting that discussion (which no one thought was off topic then) and updating my claim to show that AMD's stock is depressed as a consequence of the whole market, and the whole market is depressed because the economic recovery has been anemic. AMD has a higher beta than the market and will actually exaggerate both down and up trends.

That is why I think AMD's stock price is depressed even though the company is fundamentally performing well. Why do you think that is so?

Now, I acknowlege that as the summer political season is heating up that emotions are running high and some people will see politics in every statement that tries to understand whence goes the economy. That does not make it so. I learned quite a bit from Spokeshave's data and modified my position because of it - we are seeing more growth in compensation than I had thought, although the data does show an braking outsourcing effect.

There is a famous exchange between Sigmund Freud and a collegue after Dr. Freud gave one of his trademark talks on sexual repression and symbols. The exchange went like this:

Collegue: Do you mean to say, Dr. Freud, that you see phallic symbols in everything?

Freud puffed on his cigar, took it out of his mouth and replied: Sometimes a good cigar is merely a good cigar.

So it is with my attempts to understand the state of the economy. Sometimes a good economic discussion is merely a good economic discussion. This is affecting my investment strategy in AMD, and therefore I personally received good on-topic information.

I hope others find it as useful as I have.
