Before joining Longworth, Nilanjana held the position of Vice President, Mergers and Acquisitions at Jefferies Broadview where she led several buy and sell side transactions involving public and private Information Technology companies. Prior to Broadview, Nilanjana served at eXcelon Corporation, formerly Object Design Inc., a publicly traded database and B2B software vendor. At eXcelon, she managed the company’s professional services business for North America, overseeing over $20 million in services revenues and double digit growth. Prior to that, she held key technical and management positions at Object Design.
Nilanjana Bhowmik received a B.Eng. in computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, an MSc in computer science from the University of South Carolina, and an MBA from INSEAD. She is a charter member of the Boston chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), a non-profit organization focused on helping entrepreneurs of South Asian heritage.
Kevin joined Longworth in 2005 and focuses on investments in the infrastructure software, media and content, and wireless industries. Kevin's responsibilities span Longworth's entire investment process, from identification and evaluation of investment opportunities to ongoing support of portfolio companies. He is actively involved with Cellufun, Genesis Networks, and Scanbuy.
Prior to Longworth, Kevin was a senior analyst at A.T. Kearney, where he consulted to clients in the healthcare and technology industries on strategic and operational engagements. His previous experience also includes consulting with The Monitor Group, research and development at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, and engineering at Biogen-Idec.
Kevin earned his B.S. and M.Eng degrees in computer science and electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where his graduate studies focused on networks and mobile systems.
Stephen K. Smith has more than two decades of experience as a venture capital investor and equity analyst covering technology companies. He has successful investment track records in both public equity and private venture capital sectors. Prior to joining Masthead, Mr. Smith spent sixteen years as a top-ranked Wall Street analyst for PaineWebber, Inc. Mr. Smith was rated as a top analyst of technology stocks, holding a position on the Institutional Investor All Star Research Team for ten years, based on surveys of top technology fund managers. He was twice voted the #1 analyst of computer stocks by the Wall Street Journal. As head of the technology research team at PaineWebber, Mr. Smith was also charged with identifying prospects, conducting due diligence, positioning and marketing institutional private placements, initial public offerings, secondary offerings, mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to working at PaineWebber, Mr. Smith spent six years in the computer industry, first as a systems engineer with British computer manufacturer ICL, and then with the management consulting firm of Booz, Allen & Hamilton, where he consulted to the financial services industry on technology-related issues.
Mr. Smith holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a First Class Honors Degree in Computer Science from Brighton Polytechnic University in England. He currently serves on the boards of Scanbuy, Tizor Systems and Packet Design, all Masthead portfolio companies.
Brian D. Owen has more than 25 years of senior operating experience in a wide range of technology companies, with a particular focus on enterprise software. Prior to joining Masthead Venture Partners, Mr. Owen was President and Chief Executive Officer of Decalog, NV, a venture-backed financial management software company that he successfully merged with SunGard (NYSE: SDS).
Mr. Owen was also President and Chief Executive Officer of MapInfo, which he successfully positioned as the dominant worldwide provider of desktop mapping software. During his tenure, Mr. Owen led that Company's IPO. Mr. Owen also held senior management positions with Computer Associates, Oracle Corporation and Digital Equipment Corporation.
Mr. Owen holds an MBA degree from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a BS degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Boston College. He has been a Director or advisor of iKnowledge, Nuron (sold to Intel) and Raptor Systems. He is also a Director of Centric Software and RuleStream Corporation, and an advisor to Packet Design, Tizor and TripConnect, all current Masthead portfolio companies.
Bill joined Hudson Ventures in 2002. From 1999-2002, Bill was head of Citigroup's Strategic Investment Group, a member of Citigroup's Internet Operating Group and an Investment Committee member for the Smith Barney Opportunity Fund. While leading the Strategic Investment Group, Bill identified and invested in software and service companies that offered key technologies for one or more of the corporation's business units. Among the companies that he was active in were Guardent, Mobileway, Paytrust, Speechworks, 724 Solutions, and Transpoint. From 1996 through 2002, Bill started and ran a $100 million Technology Investment Fund within Citicorp. His investments included Micromuse, Netro, Phone.com, Quinta, Siros, WebTV, and Xaqti. In addition to his private equity experience, Bill was head of Citigroup's internal M&A group. Between 1992-1999, he was involved in all of Citicorp's deals including the Travelers-Citicorp merger, the acquisition of AT&T's Universal Credit Card business, and numerous bank acquisitions, securities processing and information services transactions. Prior to his M&A activity, he held positions within Citicorp's workout and capital markets areas. In addition to his financial services background, Bill started his career at IBM as a product engineer in the storage and magnetic media business. Bill currently serves on the Board of Directors of Dynamic Mobile Data, Integral, Pivot Solutions, Scanbuy, and Wasabi Systems and was responsible for Hudson's investment in Guardent.
Bill has undergraduate degrees in both Engineering and Economics from the University of Notre Dame and a MBA from the University of Chicago. He lives with his family in New Jersey.
Catherine A. Allen serves as CEO of BITS, the Technology Group for The Financial Services Roundtable. The BITS Board is made up of the Chairmen and CEOs of 20 of the largest U.S.-based financial services companies, as well as representatives of the American Bankers Association (ABA) and the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA). BITS' mandate is to foster the growth and development of electronic commerce. BITS works in the areas of security, privacy, standards, infrastructure development and strategic use of emerging technologies.
Catherine A. Allen holds a B.S. from the University of Missouri, M.S. from the University of Maryland, and completed doctoral work at the George Washington University. Catherine is President and Chairman of the Board of the Mark Twain Research Foundation.
