GP, I still use mouth calls myself. We've got lots of Coyote's down here. They are getting to be like Jackrabbits. A couple of our hunters use tapes. I use the Burnham Brothers Fox Calls. The C-3 (which looks like a squared off Duck call) for long range (dying rabbit sound) and for close range I use the S-2 (which is two pieces of flat plastic with a reed in the middle that you use like a Harmonica) (squealing mouse). The only thing you have to do each season with the S-2 is change the little rubber bands on each end and the big one that runs length wise. They work like a charm.
The .223 HP will definitely reach out and touch 'em in the arse! LOL I use a Remington 700 VS (Varmit Synthetic), 26" Bull Bbl., and a 6.5 x 20 Leupold scope. Both calibers are deadly on the varmits.
Like you say they are fun to hunt and they are now everywhere. I think lots of city folk would be surprised to find how close the Coyote is to their garbage. They need to be eradicated for the most part as there are way too many roaming around.
