Intel, Taiwan Semi Plan Strategic Announcement
Posted by Eric Savitz Intel (INTC) and Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM) will hold a press event at Intel HQ in Santa Clara Monday to make a “strategic announcement.”
The key players:
From Taiwan Semi, CEO Rick Tsai and VP of Sales and Marketing Jason Chen. From Intel, Anand Chandrashear, who run the company’s Ultra Mobility Group, which includes Atom, and Sean Maloney, chief sales and marketing officer. Fascinating. TSMC, of course, is the world’s leading contract chip manufacturer. Intel, of course, has its own fabs. Will Intel be outsourcing some production to TSMC? According to one report, Intel CEO Paul Otellini this week said the company could adopt a foundry model for its NAND flash memory business. Or could Intel be handing over some capacity to TSMC? I have no idea. We’ll find out Monday.
