I've done some research on solar and todays technology actually has a disadvantage in areas with extreme heat. The panel is somewhat sensitive to extreme heat and does very well in more temperate zones. ( according to the articles which I cannot remember who wrote)
I do not have solar panels but I need to put a new roof soon and I been reviewing details since the 30% credit was proposed.
There are less then 10,000 homeowners in the state with residential solar and payback still looks like a bitch.

In my experience, the time period between March and May has been toughest during recessions due to fact it is hard to make money and a lot of tax bills come due.
My thinking this quarter and next look as bad as 4Q08.
