You are correct, it should have been $300,000.
Your tax basis is always $300.000. However, the split adjusted cost basis for each of QCOM share may change : from 60 to 30 in case of 1 for 2 split. The total adjusted cost basis should alway be the same, that is $300,000.

pajaso, The cost basis per share for taxation will be the original price for all of your shares (assuming they were all purchased at the same price) divided by the number of shares you own at the time of sale. Thus, if you sell part of your holding after the split, you can easily calculate the gain or loss.
